About This Blog

Reading.  Writing.  Grammar.  Technology.

About Me
I spend 8 hours a day in a classroom with teenagers.  How do I get those teenagers to read, write, and use proper grammar?  Implement technology of course!
I have been a middle school teacher for 4 years, and I currently teach 8th grade Language Arts.  I went to Michigan State University and am a Spartan through and through.  I loved being a Spartan so much that I went back; I'm working on my Master's Degree in Educational Technology right now!
You can usually find me toying with my iPhone, sending out a tweet (@MissKappler), or with my nose stuck in a book.  I'm a fan of funny YouTube videos, cycling on beautiful days, and recently I've started doing Crossfit!

 About this Blog
I've always loved being a teacher, but loathe the looks I get from my students when I announce to them they are going be either: 1)reading  2)writing  3)holding discussions or worst of all  4)practicing grammar.  In order to combat the typical lack of excitement, I've taken to trying out different "techie" tools that engage my students and make literacy learning more relevant and hands-on.
I hope this blog can be used by other educators looking for ways to integrate technology into their classrooms, and for teenagers who want to try something different.  I know that keeping up with the ever-changing world of technology can be overwhelming, so my goal is to use this blog to keep "techie" things simple and usable.

I will be blogging alongside my students (they're creating their own blogs, too!) and my posts will focus on the different technology tools and sites that I use in my classroom to supplement reading, writing, and grammar instruction.  Most of the tools I'll focus on will be free Web 2.0 sites that are both student and teacher friendly.

Bring on the Comments!
Please feel free to share your ideas, thoughts, and even friendly criticism by commenting on my posts.  I look forward to learning as much from my readers as I hope you learn from reading this blog!
